Internet ads you can't turn off

Has anyone else started running into internet flash ads that can't be turned off? (15-30 second videos where the pause/play button is disabled.) They are especially annoying at work where I may be browsing a news site and all of a sudden my headphones, which are sitting open on the desk, begin blaring some crazy ad. I race to the video hoping to silence the ad by pausing the playback, but can't. Do you hate them as much as I do?

The web without some sort is adblocking software is indeed a scary place. What I dislike are videos that begin to play when I first visit a site. Especially when my volume is set to high lol!

Are you talking about copyright infringement? Or the internet as one big advertisement?

Yes, there is one forum that I'll quite likely leave soon because of the insane amount of flash... moving ads, noisy ads, ads that expand and block the view.

Either that, or I start hitting this junk with every blocking method possible, and no "free pass" for sites that I'd want to support, if they run such abusive ads.

Ad Block is an absolute must for browsing the Internet today!

I must admit that I have seen a couple of those advertisements where the buttons were somehow removed from the video player. That is kin to hijacking your browser and should never be tolerated by anyone (it should be illegal really). If I see one of those I close the window immediately. I will also close my browser immediately if there is an advertisement embedded before a video I actually want to watch.

I don't block ads, yet I almost never encounter any (or remember any, anyway). Of course, I only frequent about three places on the entire internet, so maybe that has something to with it?

This is why I generally keep the sound muted on my Mac at all times, unless I actually need the audio to be on.

Just installed flashbock for chrome. No problems accessing youtube.

Catblock looks awesome. It's a takeoff of adblock that replaces ads with pictures of cats!

You have to manually start the videos, but yes. They just don't start on their own.

Every once in a while, I use someone else's browser and I am *amazed* with all the ads I'm missing with Adblock and Flashblock. I'd also recommend Ghostery (web bug blocker) and BetterPrivacy (Cookie control).
