And that's 1 to Fat Abe and 4 to issybird - it's usually called Elements or Elements of Geometry I think, but you got the right book.
1. In a letter dated 1 November 1889, which author wrote “One must not put a loaded rifle on the stage if no-one is thinking of firing it.”? Anton Chekhov - Fat Abe 2. Who said in which book: “Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen pounds nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery.” Mr Micawber in "David Copperfield" by Charles Dickens - Stitchawl 3. Name the doctor and aspiring author who wrote The Narrative of John Smith, which was published in 2011, about 130 years after it was first written. He was much more successful a few years later! 4. Name the most-rejected 1974 bestseller which describes the 17 day journey of the author (who calls himself Phaedrus) and his son Chris from Minnesota to California. "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M Pirsig - Stitchawl 5. Who comes to England in the ship Demeter and flees the country in Czarina Catherine, both times in a box? Count Dracula in "Dracula" by Bram Stoker - Stitchawl 6. Name the acclaimed 1962 novel which concerns the writer Anna Wulf, who keeps a record of her life in four journals and attempts to tie them all together in a fifth one. "The Golden Notebook" by Doris Lessing - issybird 7. This book written in 300 BC in ancient Greece was essential reading for students for centuries and was said to be second only to the Bible in the number of editions published. Euclid's Elements of Geometry - issybird Scores: 4 issybird 3 Stitchawl 1 Fat Abe Now for question 3? No guesses? We are talking the 1880s and an author who was a doctor. The only author I know of from that period who was a doctor is Arthur Conan Doyle. I've not heard of that book, but could it be him?

It could and it is indeed Arthur Conan Doyle. A bit of a jump from John Smith to Sherlock Holmes, but he did it!
So that's issybird the winner with 4 points, Stitchawl with 3, and Fat Abe and Bilbo with 1 point each. Over to you, issybird. |

I didn't plan ahead when I answered. I usually don't look, because quiz questions are like crack. I'm at work right now with no time, so if anyone's got a question, please take over.

A quickie then.
I went to a quiz last night and our team won! In the last round we made up ground by knowing the answer to the two questions below (I knew them both; I have a head full of rubbish). 1. What is the name of the little bit of plastic that is wrapped around the end of your shoelace? 2. Which mammal has the highest (normal) blood pressure? |
