Question Recommendations Section - HELP a NEWBIE

OK hi all,
Im new here and new to the Kobo Touch as well (just purchased on Monday). So I have a question about the recommendations...on the reader itself and the desktop software...first of all it is empty on both but on the reader it says to give them info on what I like...where exactly do I do this? I saw on an older forum that people were talking about marking books as read where can I do this? I have seen how to pin something and rate something.
thanks in advance for helping a little noob

The recommendations are downloaded to the reader from the desktop (or through wifi) from the Kobo web site servers. When you log into the Kobo web site you'll see the recommendations in the upper carousel.

The carousel gets populated by your actions of the books you buy or search or select on the Kobo web site. Over time, the carousel starts to get populated, and you can mouse-over any book and select whether you like the book or not.

Eventually the books there should reflect the type of material you like (although you'll see a lot of stuff you wonder how it got there).

No kidding! I looked at a preview of 'Unsinkable' by Dan James (a crime novel set on the Titanic).

Kobo's recommendation based on that preview?

Enid Blyton's Famous Five series!
