Murder on the Rocks by Karen MacInerney is the 1st in her Gray whale Inn series of cozy murder mysteries, free courtesy of publisher Llewellyn's Midnight Ink imprint. As the blurb mentions, this one was nominated for an Agatha Award.
Currently free @ B&N and Amazon (available to Canadians). May or may not also show up at Sony when their store is back up from maintenance, as it seems that Llewellyn really are doing skip months of Amazon-only vs multi-store freebies. I will remind you that their books are non-Agency and thus couponable and probably cheapest at Kobo because of that (unless Sony doles out some good coupons this month). Description Trading in Texas heat for Maine's tangy salt air, Natalie Barnes risked it all to buy the Gray Whale Inn, a quaint bed and breakfast on Cranberry Island. She adores whipping up buttery muffins and other rich breakfast treats for her guests until Bernard Katz checks in. The overbearing land developer plans to build a resort next door where an endangered colony of black-chinned terns is nesting. Worried about the birds, the inevitable transformation of the sleepy fishing community, and her livelihood, Natalie takes a public stand against the project. But the town board sides with Katz.
