Question Kindle 3G data cap?

I'm soon gonna recieve a Kindle 3G (SO version).

Considering the hacks like FreeDownload, what is the data cap on 3G surfing?
Can one even see the weekly/monthly/annual data usage?

What is the cap when surfing in home country? what is the cap when roaming to other countries? (say, US Kindle in India)

Mind you, rampant file downloading would be unethical as Amazon is giving us 'free' 3G. But this question is nonetheless worth an answer.

Come on, the free 3G on the Kindle is an awesome feature, almost too good to be true. Please don't [language edit] with the Whispernet. :/

FreeDownload hack "Works over Wi-Fi only ATM." according to the author.

I know. And I did put a disclaimer note. I'm just curious.

And one reason that it might never work on 3G is due to the Amazon proxy server. There might be a filter on that server itself.

Okay, FreeDownload aside, any caps on the amount you can surf?

What happens, say, if one visits image-heavy websites 24x7? Without buying anything from Amazon?

I don't think so, but "they" can. If you were lucky and roaming in a country where you could actually access data bypassing the Amazon proxy, "they" would see the discrepancy between GSM bandwidth and proxy bandwidth and generate an alert.

Perhaps you over-estimate the kindle-browser : ) but I would tend to assume it's "effectively" unlimited . With no flash, limited javascript, and the slow screen, I think you'd be hard-pressed to reach any kind of hard cap. I think it would be a challenge for even a hard-core un-hacked kindle user to top 100mb, so that would seem like a reasonable alarm threshold. Roaming usage could be more closely monitored as it is likely more expensive.

As long as "they" continue to receive the normal Kindle system logs which substantiate the device's usage (URLs, page navigation), I don't see how they could legally cut you off. Of course if you lied and used a US billing address (with no US access to show for it), well... better keep quiet and stay under the radar : )

Easily, just download several mobi files with total size of 100 MB. With good connection one could do this in a few minutes.

But can you actually do that with a _stock_ kindle? All the books I have are tiny... It would then take time to read and enjoy them, so a human reader wouldn't be back online for quite awhile after.

Of course, not many mobi books are that large but the situation is entirely feasible. Some mobis contain a lot of pictures, some dictionaries are quite large and there parts of wikipedia converted to mobi for download, etc.

So all in all, no one has any information about my question?

Anybody banned due to usage? Anyone who saw the data usage?
