Jackson Jones, not free to Canadians in either the Kindle or Sony stores, is among the freebies available to Canada via Kobo.

3 delayed-release freebies that were for Amazon earlier and showed up for Sony and Nook today, courtesy of publisher Thomas Nelson, which does both secular and Christian fiction.

The House of Dark Shadows, 1st in a horror-looking thriller series by Richard Liparulo. On the more secular side, perhaps.

Deeper Water, 1st in the Tides of Truth southern legal thriller series set in Savannah, Georgia, by Robert Whitlow. Maybe a little more faith-based, judging by the blurb.

Love on a Dime, 1st in the Ladies of Summerhill historical romance series by Cara Lynn James. Definite Christian fiction, and the only one not available to Canadians.

Sorry, that was a misdirected error message by Sony. I had already purchased it, but the error message Sony displayed was that the book wasn't available in my area.

It happens. Edited back, and added direct links to those three direct-from-publisher Sourcebooks historical/paranormal romance freebies which they took off their ebooks deals page.

They're still showing as free on their product pages when you add to cart for the time being, though I expect this means they'll put them back to full price Real Soon Now.

16 free books as a special treat for Jane Austen's birthday, offered by Sourcebooks, who've been quite generous with the romance freebies in recent months.

6 illustrated versions of Jane Austen's own books, and 10 of those Austen-inspired spin-off novels, will be free from the 16th-17th December (promotion extended because of some glitches getting them free in particular stores).

These are supposed to be available in all the major ebooks stores, including Sony, though Sony doesn't have them free yet.

But at the moment, you can get them directly from the publisher in ePub and PDF, as well as Google Books, if you're in the States, or at least willing to appear to be.

Thoreau's Legacy: American Stories About Global Warming, is a return freebie which is a collection of essays and photos, produced by the Penguin Classics and the Union for Concerned Scientists. Not available to Canadians.

As a holiday treat, mystery/suspense/thriller author Dana Stabenow is offering a free download of her novel Fire and Ice, 1st in the Liam Campbell series, in DRM-free ePub and Mobi. Here's the link directly on her blog, and you also gain password-protected access to a Reading Companion for the book.

She's marked down the 2nd in the series in the iBookstore to $4.99, and hopefully will discount it in the other stores too.

Also, it turns out that Alan Jacobson's FBI thriller The 7th Victim, previously free at Sony and elsewhere, is for some reason still free over at Borders. Get it while it lasts, if you haven't already.

ETA: And author Tim Ferris is also giving away some self-help books. The 4-Hour Workweek and the Low-Carb Cookbook in DRM-free PDF format until the 26th, via the instructions in this MR post here.

From Borders' newsletter promo, 2 Southern fiction courtesy of Bell Bridge Books, which were previously offered free some months ago @ Amazon.

Dixie Divas, a cozy murder mystery by Virginia Brown. I read part of this when it was free for Kindle, and it's not bad. A little silly with chick-lit overtones, but some fun moments and one day I'll finish reading it.

Goddess of Fried Okra, by Jean Brashear. This seems to be one of those eccentric coming-of-age stories, and I think I recall it involving sci-fi or historical re-enactment conventions and cosplay, if you like books with that.

Also, the YA teen fantasy novel Wish is at Borders now if anyone wants a copy there as well.

A Santangelo Story, a bonus short for one of Jackie Collins' popular series, is free for non-Canadians @ Sony.

And finally, O. Henry's The Gift of the Magi may be public domain, but it's Sony's Xmas gift to us all (even Canadians) so you might as well get it to show you pay attention to freebie offerings and maybe they'll give out more.

I must say that the official Sony time-limited free promotional ebooks section in the Bargain-Priced page is now much improved. Has a decent selection of the recent promos, and no longer a self-pub story in the lot.
