Hyphenation and Ligatures?

What does the "Hyphenation" and "Ligatures" layout functions actually do to the text?

I don't have an Odyssey, but this what what they should do:

Hyphenation: Enabling breaking up words at the end of a line, with a hyphen. So that "external" could become "ex-/ternal" (where / is a linebreak). In the Orizon, hyphenation patterns seem to be language dependent. This means that possible break points for "guerrilla" are "guer-ril-la" in English, but "gue-rri-lla" in Spanish.

Ligatures: Enable the use of ligutares, if the selected font has them. Some fonts include special glyphs for certain combination of letters, which wouldn't look very nice if they were just displayed normally. Typical cases are "fi" or "ff", but a font can define a ligature for any combination of any number of letters. If a font has ligatures, they usually look much nicer.

In the Orizon, turning hyphenation on, automatically turns ligatures on (and support for different kinds of spaces).
