Just a few short hours and we start. I have plotted about a half of the book. Changes have occurred. SUmkIII pointed out that the whole "find an ancient civilization in the Amazon" has been done by that wanker Harrison Ford, so they now start out in Cuba and go to the Yucatan.
Which, by great coincidence is where I am right now... |

I started just over 3 hours ago
And have written almost 2000 words on fog, smog and the causes thereof. And should probably go to bed before the excitement gets too much |

What's all the fuss about? As was famously said: "Writing is easy. You just sit at the typewriter and open a vein." Good luck, folks. Neil

I had to go shopping for dog food and hardware, and spent all the rest of the day ripping up garden railway sleepers with my nemesis, the crowbar, flipping them, then screwing them all back down again.
Novel...oh, yeah, that...must get started... |

"It was a stark and musty sight.
This opening line, while presenting a rather uncertain image at first, actually says a great deal. First, it says that the author has difficulties composing phrases or even thoughts containing more than about two words in a row. Well, that's true enough. Second, it says that this particular sight, being a vision described by the author and intended for the reader to attempt to see, is both stark (i.e., sheer or nekkid - teehee!) and musty (having a stale odor - how does a sight have an odor??). So what sort of sight might that be? Well, how about another "home" video starring Paris Hilton? No? Okay, then imagine this: a small, nearly hairless dog emerges from his slumber amid a pile of several other wet and muddy dogs. The protaganist (yes, that's him) slowly stretches and then shakes violently, filling the air with that delectable odor of wet dog. You see, it is possible to describe a scene this way. It took a bit of explanation, I'll grant you, but it is plausible. Still, it in no way does justice to this particular tail....erm, tale. So let's get on with it, shall we?" Let's see, 200 words down and another 49,800 to go. Okay, maybe not. |

Welp..That didn't take long. Less than 10 hours into Nano and the internal editor strikes again.
I decided I didn't like one character and want him to die, but I want another to take his place..one I like more. Go figure. Trying to work her now. Go figure. |

It's much easier if you finish it first, and then get started, safe in the knowledge you've already finished it. Why do you think so many tales are told in flashback, these days?
(And to all the others --- good luck, and keep typing!) |

Just started at noon today and I'm about 1,700 words in. I tried this a couple of years ago while still in school and had mid-terms smack the will out of me. This year I'm determined to finish.
What a freakin' rush though. |

825 words so far, then I got stuck on the name question. I want to bring a new character in, but what to name them?? I am still debating him/her/couple, too!
How do people ever get to 50,000?? Glad to see you are all going for it! Oh yes I am procrastinating . . . stalling . . . putting off the inevitable . . . . Good luck on that 2500, Jaxx!! |
