I, too, have the same sudden problem. only NOT a DRM only a refusal to convert azw3 to mobi so I can read on other devices ...I get this error log...

Your problem has nothing to do with DRM, so you should've started a new thread.

But I can tell you right now, you will need to update your out-of-date calibre from version 1.48 (which was released nearly 2 years, 1 major version, and 57 minor versions ago).
I am pretty sure that bug was fixed in calibre v2.0.0 but regardless you need to verify that the error is present on an actual supported version.

As eschwartz says, you'll need to update your copy of calibre. Neither format is documented, and the old version you're using just doesn't understand azw3 well enough.

If you cannot update your Calibre because you are running Windows XP then if your computer can handle running Windows 10, my suggestion is to upgrade your Windows since you'll need a newer Windows to run a newer Calibre.
