Not sure what you're asking, but it doesn't have a screen saver. When it goes into standby mode the screen is blank to let you know that it's "off". eInk doesn't really need a screen saver, there is no "burn in".

I think he's asking for a similar feature to what is found on the Kindle and some other devices. Perhaps one day, people will stop using the word screensaver and use words like attraction screen or cover screen. I think the word screensaver started to lose its original meaning when toasters started to fly.

There is also speculation that e-ink particles left in a particular state for too long may get 'stuck'. Someone did post microscope images of an old e-ink display that looked spotty with stuck particles. I wonder if cycling the screen between full-size images of solid white and solid black helps 'clean' up the screen or if an utility is needed to drive the same images to the screen but at a higher voltage.

Perhaps IREX had good reason to take the extra power to clear the screen when the device goes into standby when some other devices leave the last page up, taking advantage of e-ink's ability to maintain the screen without power. Or it may be a practical thing to do: they can cut power to all the buttons except for the power switch and a blank screen will prevent someone from thinking the device has hung (and subsequently crack the screen by thinking stabbing the stylus even harder will get it to respond).

If you leave the same image on the screen for a long time you can get some more residual ghosting than normal, that's probably what you're talking about. It usually goes away after a couple refreshes though.

Exactly. There are basically two opinions on this, and it always goes back and forth regarding what different people want. Technically you can leave an image on the screen when the unit is powered down (or on standby). Some people like that, but others say it would be too confusing since you couldn't tell that it was "off" or hung... etc.

Since the DR800 recovers within a couple seconds, I don't think blanking the screen is a real issue. It was different on something like the iLiad where you really shut it down and it took 40 - 50 seconds to boot up again. On the iLiad it would have been more useful to leave the image on there so that you could be reading the last page while it booted.

A lot of those older displays are also based on earlier generations of the technology. It's completely plausible that the older displays were like that from the factory (newer models are 'cleaner' in areas of white than the 505/etc ever were).
