But look at this Blood Ties by Kay Hooper. Amazon $9.99 BN $26.00 list/$9.99 after discount BoB $26.00 list/$14.98 after discount FW $20.00 list/$17.00 after club discount Sony $26.00 list/$14.30 after 45% discount Random House certainly doesn't seem to be in favor of selling ebooks of current hardcovers for $9.99 unless they have to. They may dislike the agency model - but that does not mean they necessarily support lower prices for ebooks of current hardcovers. |

Random House doesn't set the selling price of it's ebooks -- the retailer sets the price.

Plus, at this stage, only a handful of writers are very savvy about ebooks. To create your own ebooks requires a considerable investment in time and energy. Too many people think it's simple. It's not. And before you cheer Random House too much, they're the company that made a huge grab for ebook rights in old contracts--trying to tie up books whose authors could try to do the above. |

You said "That must hold for Macmillan also then. Why is then people saying they do not trust Macmillan to lower the price since history shows they have not done it? " That almost doesn't even make grammatical sense. I don't trust MacMillan to lower prices, they clearly said they want to RAISE prices. That is precisely what they have said, IN THE PAST MIND YOU. If past behavior predicts future behavior then expect them to INCREASE the price. Last edited by kennyc; 02-06-2010 at 05:29 PM. |
