Question What if I don't use a router? That my computer is connected to an ethernet cable?

I've receiving lots of Kobo offers - but I haven't opened any emails because I don't use a router so, I don't think I can download anything... Can someone shed some light on this?

Thanks!

what does a router have to do with anything? you seem capable of being on the internet, unless you're a figment of my imagination, which is always possible..... So, if you're on the internet, what's stopping you from getting your emails?

You can download your kobo books using the desktop application then sync your kobo via the usb cable.

You don’t need network access for your kobo.

You're probably thinking that you need a WiFi router to use the WiFi connection function of the Kobo WiFi/Touch at home. That's true, but it's not necessary to use WiFi. As the previous posters have pointed out, you can simply download books to your computer and then plug the Kobo in via USB cable and upload the books to the reader.

As Atilla pointed out, you don't need WiFi to use the Kobo Touch. It's nice to be able to do things over WiFi, but the USB cable hookup though the desktop works just fine.

As all above said. There's no harm in just downloading books to your ereader via your computer.
But to use your touc online, you need a wifi enabled access point.

However, I must tell ya, as a network tech. You SHOULD get a router. especially if you're not running any firewall based application on your computer. Direct connection to the internet can be very insecure. even the cheapest routers provide a basic level of protection of at least hiding your personal computer from the "outside".
