Android Sensory and Coordination Accessibility Help?
I bought an 8" Nuvision tablet on clearance.
I already had an Ipega 9023 controller, and hoped to use the controller to avoid having to deal with the touchscreen. I used the developer tools trick to disavble the animation, and installed "night mode" to reduce the brightness. Because touchscreen brightness ranges from far too bright for me to look at to far, far, far too bright. But it hasn't worked. First, I can't start with the controller. I have to use the touchscreen to enable the controller, they don't always work together. Second, I can't type whiile usng the controller, because the tablet detects it as a keyboard. Third, I can't do everything with the controller. Fourth, I can't start in "night mode" and even after starting "night mode," I can't reduce the brightness of the whole screen. Fifth, I can't disable animation just by using the tools that are supposed to disable animation. Trying to navigate the home screen causes zooming, and slips in the pdf reader I'd installed can cause zooming. which triggers my migraines. Is there any way to get Android devices to work, given my sensory and coordination issues? Is it something that better apps can help with, or something that only ending the plague of touch-devices could help with? |

To clarify, I would need:
(a) Some way to control the device, from bootup to shutdown, without using the touchscreen. (b) Some way to reduce brightness, similarly. (c) Some way to disable zooming animation in the home screen. (d) Some way to read without either system-wide or app-specific zooming animation in the pdf reader. |

Have you gone to the accessibility screen in your settings?
Mine is under setting: device. |

Talkback off, captions off, magnification gestures off, but that doesn't stop them, large text checked, auto-rotate screen not checked, speak passwords not checked and not sure what it does, accessibility shortcut off and again not sure, text-to-speech output, touch & hold delay medium and again nt sure what it does.
I have Night Mode on, but the screen is painfully bright while booting, until I can turn it on. I installed Orion Viewer, maybe that as the wrong choice for my needs. It doesn't seem to have working settings. I can't disable pinch-zoom. I guess I should just delete it, but I don't know whether anything else would work better. I really really really really hate touchscreens too. |
