I remember I tried to read the first two Dresden Files back to back and it was just too much. That seems to only happen with Fantasy series, though. With more general fiction, I don't get the same burn out. I read the Sentence of Marriage trilogy straight through. But it's no wonder I found myself missing Harry - I checked, and I had finished Grave Peril way back on May 1st. Question for those who are ahead of me: Spoiler:

This is what stopped me from actively participating. I decided I was focusing too much on the finish line and not enough on books I enjoy reading. Looking at LibraryThing I see I'm currently at 63 and even if I got 8 books a month for the rest of the year, I'll only be in the mid 80's. /OFFTOPIC |

I love the Nathan Fillon pic Alansplace!!
As for the challenge, I love the idea of it but have learned that I can not push myself or else I'll just stop all together. So, I try not to concentrate on speed too much. I have, however, always felt that I read too slowly/lazily and I am using the challenge as a way to encourage myself to keep reading. I knew when I started this year that I would not make 100, because even though I can read two books a week (if I avg. 100 pgs a day), I rearly do so anymore. I did want to make it to at least 50 (avg 1 book a week), though. It doesn't look like I'll even make that goal this year, unless I "cheat" and stick to short stories. So my goal next year will still say 100, but I will be happy if I read 50; 1 book a week is not too much for me to ask of myself. Last edited by Nyssa; 10-12-2011 at 12:36 PM. |

hmmmm....
that's the costume (except for the wizard's staff) his character 'captain mal reynolds' wore in the (like the dresden files) single season tv series, 'firefly' it was supposed to suggest the look of the soldiers from the confederacy in the us civil war.

Firefly was an awesome show, especially when you watch the episodes in order instead of jumbled up the way Fox aired them! I love Nathan in Castle but I still miss Firefly!

I had no idea, but then again, I am the only person on the planet never to see Alien or any of its follow ups. As I've stated before, I do not like to be scared and that creature was one scary looking (insert expletive here).

After listening to the audio books, I tend to see Harry as looking quite a bit like Spike (with dark hair and different gear) from Buffy.
Between Marsters doing the voice work, and Spike's black coat... Well, the image is stuck in my mind. |
