Wolf Hall, Hilary Mantel - LRX vs ePub
I have bought Wolf Hall from the Sony eBook store. Page 23 has an image of the Tudor and Yorkists family trees, which is pretty key to following the whole, rather complex (to me!), plot. On the LRX version this is almost unreadable - it certainly doesn't work on the PRS-600 and even on my 24"iMac in eBL it is eye-wateringly painful to make out the detail.
Sony are being very mean about it - refusing to consider a refund, refusing to engage via chat or e-mail, and the person I eventually spoke to on the phone just didn't get whatI was talking about. Putting that rather nasty business to one side, has anyone bought the ePub version, and is the family tree in the ePub version any clearer? Many thanks in advance! amjb Last edited by amjbrown; 11-14-2009 at 11:43 AM. Reason: missing question mark |

I don't have the ePub version but in the Kindle version these (at the end of Cast of Characters) are 698 by 426 images with relatively small text.
The screenshot from Kindle for PC illustrates that, unlike the actual Kindles, it does not magnify images or indeed have any image options at all. This is a good novel by the way, well worth reading. |

Thanks wallcraft - that is much, much clearer than the Sony LRX file. Not sure how to take a screen shot from eBL - but you would be shocked!

In the mean time, given that these are "real people", if you want to find out who is related to whom, you could always look them up on Wiki.

Hopefully the ePub conversion that HansTWN refers to will fix the LRX quality issue, and in the meantime Wiki will tide me over. Still seems a shoddy conversion to me though - the Kindle one does look much better amjb |

Hi all,
Just wondering: Has any of you re-downloaded the epub version of this book? And how is the quality of the family tree? Thinking of buying this and the sequel from the Sony Reader Store. Thank you very much. -Bok |

I bought Wolf Hall from the Sony Store a few weeks ago when it was on sale for $4.99. I'd say the family tree pages are poor because of the resolution. It's ok for me because I can read the very tiny print, but many people who like larger font sizes would probably struggle. I tried landscape orientation and the zoom feature on my T1, and it's readable but not crisp and clear.

In this case it's not so much the hardware technology as a poor image resolution by the publisher. If the resolution were better, then my ereader would be able to zoom in on it and pan by touch and read it just fine
