The wall side is the easy side. All the regulation and electronics are on the 4A output side. This is where it is likely to fail if it fails.

That's true. I was thinking more of the claim of its being "taxing on the outlet". That's clearly not so. You're absolutely right, though, in saying that a certain degree of care is needed in the design of something that's potentially going to carry 4A. Heat loss = (I^2)*R, so goes as the square of the current.

Well, pretty much what you guys said was what I meant. I was worried about was some sort of heat issue. I'm afraid I used the wrong word. I was referring to the device itself. Now that I re-read my statement, I noticed how foolish it sounds. I have a pc which runs a whole bunch of devices and 10 usb slots, so I am aware that the outlet can handle it.

The device itself needs to be able to handle charging 4 devices at once. I have seen enough exploding chargers to (not usb though) to warrant my fear of generic charging devices. ^_^
