Creating an ePub from scratch

Hi,
I'm not finding the thread again where someone pointed out how to go through the different steps from scanning, OCRing, Word editing and finally generating the ePub file.
What process flow do the experienced creators use?
Any pointers would be awesome.
Thanks,
miquele

I would not recommend Word editing, unless there was some specific reason to do so (like lots of footnotes). And even then I'd be hesitant to use Word.

For editing & marking up the text I'd recommend either a text editor, or something like Sigil.

I scan in ABBYY, add semantics in Word (styles and alike), export from Word to clean HTML (with my macro) and do the touchup in Sigil.

I don't really bother with layout in Word, but just make sure that the style names are correct (corresponds to my CSS styles)

But it's the part you can do on a couch, and you get to enjoy reading the book (if you can keep the concentration required for proofreading).
