Question Voltage on AC Chargers

Hello all!

I have a question regarding chargers for the Sony readers. I have the Sony 300 and I know it has to be the barrel charger and not the USB. I also read that you can use any PSP compatible charger. I found one at a store that was going bankrupt for $5. Yay for me!! :-D

The AC charger is from MadCatz and it says it's for the PSP slim and compatible with the original PSP. My question concerns voltage though. This charger is 5v and the Sony charger is 5.2v. Is this going to be a problem at all or will it simply take a smidge longer to charge?

If it's no good I don't mind throwing out $5 but I'd rather not ruin my reader in any way. Does anybody know? Thanks so much guys & gals.

5v is fine... just takes a couple of minutes longer to reach full charge... all my family's PRSs use 5v chargers... and mine is nearly two years and running...

If it is for the PSP it should be fine.

Even the regular USB specification has a 5% voltage tolerance (+/- 0.25 V). I don't know the PSP voltage tolerance but it has to be at least that much. Sony had to account for that.

What I don't understand is why Energizer sells a charger for the PSP/DS rated at 12v.

I bought it, but I ended up using the USB to Power cable with my iPod charger (5v), just in case...

Couldn't find the voltage info on the packaging prior to buying!
