As I read, it has two modes:
- colour with backlight on, lower resolution because you need rgb-pixels
- monochrome, higher resolution, without backlight, but reflective (I hope I got this right), so sunlight is used to light the display - the brighter the light, the better the view.

Yes, the color is in the backlight, not the pixels. Also the monochrome mode makes a terrific ebook reader. Really excellent battery life in that mode. Now if somebody will just some good ereader software on that box.

There's already evince available on the OLPC. Hope that FBReader will be coming next !

Looks like a great e-book reader: great screen, and it can be used for 24H in reading mode...
