Margaret Atwood gave a marvelous, enthusiastic and pragmatic talk at O'Reilly Publishing's 2011 Tools of Change conference. The whole 30mins is excellent, but at the very least watch as far as the dead moose...

I enjoyed that. I've always thought of her as a well-balanced and open-minded person. I liked her comment when someone asked if self-publishing would decrease the quality of what's being published: "The quality of literary output has always been questionable."

I like that slide where she shows the Dead Author and then all the organisms that feed off of it in the ecosystem. I think it's time that the Ecosystem eliminate some of the non-essential bacteria and the vultures and give the Author some snazzier pants.

What a hoot to see her early work too. From 6 year old Indie Author to The Handmaid's Tale.
