"Corrupted Database" Error after update to 3.28.0

Hi, I hope this is the right place to post. Calibre was working fine until I updated, following which I receive a "corrupted database" error and an option to rebuild the database (screenshots attached), which I tried and failed with the following error:

calibre, version 3.28.0
ERROR: Failed to repair library: Restoring database failed, click Show details to see details

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\db\restore.py", line 123, in run

File "site-packages\calibre\db\backend.py", line 267, in __init__
CantOpenError: CantOpenError: unable to open database file

I restored the "Calibre Library" directory from my own backup, but the error persists.

Can anyone help? I really don't want to lose my book collection!

TIA

Something on your computer is blocking calibre from accessing its database. Most likely your antivirus. Exclude the calibre library folder from your antivirus and/or disable the antivirus and you should be fine.

Hi Kovid,
Many thanks for instant reply! I don't think that is the case, though I'll check.

I have just uninstalled 3.28.0 and installed 3.27.1 and it works fine (which is a relief!). I'll try 3.28.0 again, check the antivirus (I have Malwarebytes, Bitdefender & Glasswire) and let you know.

Hi again Kovid - you were correct - Bitdefender was blocking access to "protected folders". 3.28.0 is now working fine. Many thanks for the tip and speedy response!
