Look for a device driver plugin with Android or MTP in the name. There will be a button on the bottom to disable it, together with the buttons for customizing or getting new plugins.

OK, I did that, but I am still getting the "another device is connected" when I try to connect.

Oh well, its a little annoying, but its no big deal. I'll just remember to unplug my phone from the computer before I try to connect.

Since killing the MTP driver didn't work, try also killing the Android driver.
