YA fantasy novel, "The Count of the Living Death"
My new Gothic-Fantasy-Comic YA novel, The Count of the Living Death will be FREE on Amazon for Wednesday-Thursday (Jan.8-9). Read what happens when you lock your 'Death' away in a chest for 15 years...and then hire a sorcerer named Hildigrim Blackbeard to clean up the mess. Click here to check it out: http://www.amazon.com/Living-Chronic...e+living+death
The Blurb: Count Leopold always wondered about the strange chest sealed with three magic locks. His father warned him never to mention the Box—nor pry into the secret chamber where it was kept. Now the Box has begun speaking to Leopold, begging him to find the key and undo the hateful locks. If he does so, it promises him to fulfill his every desire, even offering him the hand of the forbidden—and forbiddingly named— Lady Mary Bianca Domenica de Grassini Algarotti. However, before unfastening the third lock he catches a glimpse of something unspeakable inside—and turns to the only man who shared his father’s secret, the legendary Conjurer-Magician, Hildigrim Blackbeard. A man who, if the stories are true, will exact a terrible price in return for his service. I am an English professor and life-long reader of fantasy, science-fiction, and literature in all forms. I hope you download and enjoy the book, and look forward to any feedback in the form of reviews or personal responses. Please feel free to e-mail me at jgrasso@ecok.edu or find me on Facebook. Happy reading! Last edited by Joshua Grasso; 01-07-2014 at 11:16 AM. Reason: Promotion is over--don't want to mislead anyone on the price |

Sounds like a spooky tale, and just right for the holiday. Thanks.

Thanks! Hope you like it...it's not spooky per se, but it is Gothic in the old sense of the word. I think I've read it too many times to even know what it is anymore! But again, thanks for your interest!

Great--thank you so much! You'll see a lot of the older Gothic literature, Otranto, Vathek, even a bit of Udolpho, in this work--though I try to modernize it a bit. I hope it doesn't disappoint you. I love Gothic literature and often teach classes in it, so this is my attempt at what I 'think' a Gothic novel is. But you're a better judge than I am at this point, as I've spent way too much time writing, re-writing, and re-reading it to know what the #@$#$ it is. Thanks again!

Thanks to those who have already downloaded the book; I hope it proves an interesting take on Gothic literature, fairy tales, and high fantasy with enough humor to excuse my blasphemy in mixing these genres in the first place! If you download the book please consider giving it a quick review--even if you're not altogether convinced about this Hildigrim Blackbeard fellow. Thanks for your time!

Thanks to one reader who pointed out a small, but important, error toward the end of the book. I patched this up along with a few other subtle details--so now it's new and improved! Sorry to bump it up again, but I feel it's a much stronger book now and I hope you'll give it a chance. Thanks!

Why by a 99 cent book by someone you've never heard of? If the blurb and the catchy cover doesn't grab you, here's a great recent review which might do the trick:

The book is only 99 cents for one more week (then it goes up to $2.99)! Your last chance to read the book that everyone...okay, that 2 reviewers on Amazon...says is a 4-star book! Is it gothic? Is it slapstick? Something else entirely? Read the book and find out!

My YA fantasy/gothic/comic novel is free this Saturday-Monday on Amazon: if you've ever wondered what happens to a Death locked in a chest for 15 years, this is a relatively painless way to find out.

The Count of the Living Death is free this Monday-Wednesday on Amazon: http://http://www.amazon.com/Count-L...e+living+death
In case you don't want to read all the replies above, here's the blurb: Count Leopold always wondered about the strange chest sealed with three magic locks. |
