Can't connect to wifi if using a Whitelist
I don't use the wifi often at all, just on the newer reader to get the new firmware when there is one since I prefer to sideload all my books. But today I tried connecting and the reader with 3.8.0 will not connect to the wifi anymore if the whitelist is enabled. I checked that the MAC address didn't somehow get changed or entered wrong in the router, deleted it from the router and re-entered it after it was connected, but the only way the reader will connect is if I disable the whitelist. The older Glo I use daily for reading with firmware 2.4.0 connects just fine like always with the whitelist enabled.
Is this a known issue with 3.8.0? Or any suggestions to get it working like it should? It's not a real problem since I don't sync often like I said (never on the older Glo and only on the newer one to check out the newer firmware), but would be nice if it worked like it should. The annoying part of it is once it doesn't connect, you have to keep re-entering the password, it doesn't save it unless it connects. |

That sounds router specific. I've had no problems with my devices and filtered MAC addresses on 3.8.x (well except when I first entered my H2O and forgot to move it from blocked to safe ).

I thought maybe something changed in the router too and double checked everything, but as I said, the older Glo with firmware 2.4.0 on it connects as usual, as does my phone, tablet and netbook, all with the whitelist enabled as always. It's just the Glo with 3.8.0 that needs the whitelist disabled.

This might not be applicable but I had an occurrence yesterday when after trying to connect to a WiFi network with a hidden SSID and no password, all preexisting WiFi networks got wiped from my Glo, and I was unable to successfully add any new ones.
Prior to doing a factory reset I decided to make a new "empty" wpa_supplicant.conf file (well not exactly empty; it contained a copy of wpa_supplicant_conf.template), place it in a KoboRoot.tgz file and load that onto the Glo. TADA SUCCESS Contents of /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicsnt.conf Code:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant update_config=1 |

Thank you for that! It worked like a charm and connected on first attempt with the Whitelist enabled. Weird that it happened in the first place, especially since the reader with 2.4.0 still connected without any problems as it should have plus my other mobile devices. This just reconfirms my use of 2.4.0 , and for the reader I actually use, I'll probably never update.
Edit: Btw, this morning the Glo with 3.8.0 wouldn't connect to the wifi even with the whitelist disabled, it just refused to connect. When I entered the password, it would pause a few seconds and just bring up the screen to connect to a network again. So thank you again, you saved my sanity!
