Newbie question re: registering
Just got my 1150. In order to purchase it I had to create an account with ebookwise. Did that. Read here in the "New to ebookwise" sticky post that I need to register the device. I go to the link and am asked for my device ID. Having no clue what that is or where to find it I tried to register using the device itself, (connected to my pc via USB).
Can't do it, tells me an account already exists. How do I register the device ? Is it important ? I have no intention of buying anything from ebookwise, I'll be getting my books from Project Gutenberg. TIA, jbarntt |

It's not necessary to register your device if you just want to read PG books (that's what I read as well).
Did you download the USB driver from the eBookwise website? The USB driver is required for connecting to their website (unless you connect using the internal modem). It's been about four years since I registered mine, so I don't remember all the steps involved. |

Thanks for the reply !
I did download and install the USB driver. It works fine. I'll move on to downloading my PD stuff onto the device, html and txt seeming to be the main deal. Any advice you care to give, greatly appreciated jbarntt |

Just go to this page on www.ebookwise.com and download the QuickStart Guide .pdf to understand what is required to set up your ebook Device ID. In a nutshell, the registering and entering of setup info happens on your EBW1150 when connected via the usb cable (requires ETI usb driver to be installed before connecting) or RJ-45 telephone line. Your device will "communicate" with the ETI servers and finalize everything for you. All you need do then is use that ebook Device ID and password to access your online bookshelf at www.ebookwise.com. If you have any problems, just ask here. p.s. By the way, GuteBook retrieves/formats a lot of the more recent Project Gutenberg ebooks directly into .imp format for your EBW1150. Then just use the freeware Impserve to transfer the resulting .imp ebook directly to your EBW1150 from your computer. For the GuteBook program, check the link in my signature below... |

Thanks Nick, I'll do what you suggest.
FYI - Used my 1150 for the first time today, on my commute to work. Am reading the preloaded "A princess of Mars". The 1150 works great. Screen is subject to glare, but a slight tilt of the device fixes that. Eink may be better, (I wouldn't know), but for my use the 1150 is more than satisfactory. Nice ergonomics, only two buttons, and the touch screen w/ stylus works fine. A great deal for 90.00 USD ! |
