What format are these eBooks in? The site doesn't say and I will not purchase something I may not be able to use.

I just see Heywood Gould saying "gees a lot of people downloaded these ebooks when I offered them for free how about I charge 99c and see how it goes this time"
They were pdfs when they were free and the audiobook was mp3. Last edited by tech_au; 04-18-2009 at 01:39 AM. Reason: Added ebook & audiobook format |

PDF means he doesn't understand eBooks and that is really a shame.

I would like to correct this. I am looking at the advice on these forums and will research how to convert these books into a true eBook format. My Kindle is on order. I look forward to joining the ebook community.

hi tolmitch and welcome to the forum ! if i've understood correctly, you're the author Heywood Gould ? we're always very pleased to welcome new authors to our community and thrilled to see more and more of you getting interested in ebooks !!
i'd recommend that you start learning about the epub format first ; it's the new industry standard format, natively readable on more and more devices (including sony prs 505 and 700, and the iphone using the stanza app) and very easy to convert to other formats, such as mobipocket (drm-free mobipocket can be read on many devices, including the kindle). please take a look in our epub forum to learn about the format and don't hesitate to ask questions ! we've got plenty of knowledgeable and friendly people who are happy to answer ! if you're looking for a very easy way to make an epub book, i recommend you try the wysiwig interface at feedbooks ; if you don't want to make your book available through their distribution plateforme (currently they don't support paid distribution, only free, although they plan to add that feature in the future) you can simply create your book, then ask for a preview in the format of your choice (epub, mobipocket, pdf...) but don't publish it. and don't miss our writers' forum as well ! |

To answer the question on the site, ePub to cover the Sony devices and Mobi for the others (as an aside, our understanding is that Mobi won't license their format for use on readers with another DRM-capable format, which is why the Sony doesn't have use it.)
Note that both should be possible with the same 'source' HTML file, for instance, using Calibre and Mobipocket Creator. |
