I've also just been bitten by this - they kindly sent me a 3rd birthday (theirs, not mine!) code which was for an unspecified discount (great idea -not!) - I chose the book, thinking I could apply the code to see if it was worthwhile and their wonderful system purchased it immediately - not happy and have emailed customer services....who in their right mind switches an option like this on by default? - surely people should have to opt-in if they want this functionality....
