Preparing for one of the worst jobs of cleaning up after the fire until now. Today we're going to partially clean out the basement where the fire was. Which means shovelling broken lightbulbs and burnt packaging first into big buckets, then emptying those in Big Bags (those bags used on building sites to transport sand, bricks and other materials in). It will be very dirty work. Luckily we're getting help from one of our suppliers who is coming to help shovelling.

I'm surprised that you've waited on that part so long! That's probably where lot of the smell has come from!
Good luck and remember, baking soda is your friend! |

We've not waited that long, already 6 of those big bags with debris are taken away. The problem is that only 3 big bags can fit on the trailer and the beer-boat, which lifts the bags from the basement onto the trailer, comes by once a week. We've already filled another bag, but the hardest part is coming up, where we have to separate metal from light fixtures and tools and chemical waste from fluorescent tubes and energy saving lamps from the debris. |

Looking forward to the next few weeks. From Monday I'll be dog and housesitting for two and a half weeks. After six weeks of getting up early and cleaning every single day I need a bit of a break and some distance. That doesn't mean I won't be helping, but it won't be from 8 am until 6 pm and another couple of hours after dinner anymore.
Monday I'm taking my first day off in one and a half months. They'll be leaving early in the morning, I'll probably go over around 9 am, drop some things off, go to the supermarket and then take it easy the rest of the day. It's right in time because it's been getting harder and harder to go on at the current pace for me. |

I've taken the day off (wife's Birthday) and I'm just wondering how to persuade her to come out of her "I'm getting old" funk and come out for a lunch in the countryside in this beautiful weather. She's only 41...

That's the key, orlok! A new baby!
Just kidding. I'll be 56 tomorrow, but birthdays that don't end in a "5" or a "0" seem kind of like a non-event to me, lol! |
