How to transfer bookmarks and comments to a new SQLite database
Hello,
in my understanding all the bookmarks and comments I created on my Kobo Glo are stored in the SQlite DB (.kobo/KoboReader.sqlite) on the device. Some time ago, a firmware update of my Glo made it hang, so I had to reset it. Now the DB got replaced by a fresh copy. No problem to get my books back in (from Calibre), but now all the bookmarks and comments are gone ;-( I have a backup-copy of the DB file on the HD of my computer. But just replacing the DB on the device, by the one from the HD doesn't work. (Version differences ?) Has anybody found a way to get the information over ? Regards Martin P.S.: I'll post my finding so far on a reply in this thread and I try to add more stuff as I find it. Nevertheless I still appreciate a complete solution form somebody... ;-) |

actually, this is what I do when there are problems, delete the sqlite file on the device and replace it with the back up copy - I also delete the two calibre files for good measure. I do this with Calibre NOT running, then after the replacement I open calibre, then disconnect. So far it has been working fine for me.

First round of notes....
Hello,
as announced my findings so far. To look into one of the DBs, I'm using SQLite Manager for Firefox: https://code.google.com/p/sqlite-manager/ Schemaspy can be used to get an overview: http://schemaspy.sourceforge.net/ There is also an schema for the Kobo DB here: http://kobodb-schema.sourceforge.net/index.html But this is version 52, while my DB claims to be 101 - quite a gap. The "Bookmark" table seems to contain the notes: column "text": Marked text column "Annotation": The note added ot the bookarm/marked text Regards Martin |

The simple answer is to export the contents of the Bookmark table in the old database. Then load these into the table in the new database.
The above should work as long as: - The books are in the same directory - The names of the books did not change - There are no files in "Digital Editions\Annotations". If there are, delete these first. If you have purchased some kepubs and made annotations, these should have been synced to the Kobo server and back. I would recommend that you not include these when you do the export or load. The rows you want will have "VolumeID like '%file:///'". |

Hello,
I tried (again) to just restore the database file. I had the bookmarks in the single book bought from the Kobo store back. But this is probably due to the sync. In the other books, this didn't work. I'll try the recommendation by davidfor and let you know. Thanks ! Martin |
