Looking to Buy New E-Reader
Greetings all first time poster.
I have owned alot of kindles over the years and currently am using a Kindle Paperwhite 1st gen. I am looking to buy a new E-Reader as my PW is getting slower and slower. What is the latest and greatest E-REader with great clarity (reduce eye strain), back light (read in dark places) good storage (for many many books) and good battery life? Thanks. |

Slower and slower? What does that mean?

You might get more responses if you post this in the "Which one should I buy?" forum. If you're interested in staying with Amazon, the current Paperwhite has a faster processor than the first generation. However, I get the sense that storage is very important to you. Are you running out of space on your current Paperwhite? If so, you may want to get an ePub reader like the Kobo Aura that allows you to store books on a MicroSD card. It also has backlighting and similar battery life to the Paperwhite.

Given that you've posted in the Kindle forum, you presumably want a Kindle. The latest version is the current Paperwhite model.

Reports are in that Amazon is silently sending the latest wave of Paperwhite 2nd-gen kindles with 4GB storage instead of 2GB.
(And not just the Japanese models. ) What is this about slower and slower? The Kindle should not be slowing down just because of age. It would be getting slower at specific things like searching, as more books are added. Other things, like actually reading do not slow down. (Unless something is weirdly wrong?) |

If your Kindle is getting slower, there are three likely possibilities. Your Kindle is having problems getting a file to index so is endlessly indexing. Your Kindle has very little space left (books with illustrations take up a lot of space). Your Kindle needs a factory reset.
Nearly always, it's the factory reset that fixes everything. It's just a pain though if you like to keep a large library because now you have to reload it and reshuffle into assorted collections. I don't have anything to recommend other than avoiding tablets if you can. Tablets are heavy and harder on the eyes, although they are better suited for pdf files such as magazines. For currently selling ereaders, I only have experience with PPW and Nook Glo and both are good choices, but use different formats. Last edited by Tarana; 07-30-2014 at 02:06 PM. |

I think because Faith realizes she mixed up backlit and frontlit.

The difference between the two matters a great deal to many people. Many people don't like backlit devices for reading at night, but are comfortable with frontlights.

Also, if there are books you no longer need on your KPW, leaving them off will free up space and could help to speed up your KPW. |

thanks for all the responses. I guess i'll do a factory reset, but hate having to reload everything and categorize again. I did however also purchase an Aura HD as well. This will allow me to read two books much easier. Thanks again.
