It should just run on BSD if you can get all the dependencies installed.

I may look into that myself, I've created FreeBSD ports before so doing one to install calibre shouldn't be too awkward (I hope!)

It's ages ago since I did my last FreeBSD port and I haven't dealt a lot with python so far either, but as it seems, simond wants to take a look. |

The main problem I can see is the very frequent updates

Maybe with a catchy title like "Calibre's new features - ePub support and automated news download!" I guess what I'm saying is: don't mention ChipIn in the title, let people discover their lust for these features by making them think they're already available. |

Yeah, I'm glad, because coding epub support is going to be more fun that writing a GUI for automated news downloading.

Will this become the native storage format for the app, rather than a database? Will you be able to convert other formats to ePub? What formats will be supported? Will you be able to support ePub to other formats or still just .LRF? If so, what formats will be supported? Will you be able to specify what formats to output when doing a save to disk/update reader? BOb |

Kovid, perhaps you can give us some more details on what you're planning and we can include that on the description?

I'm planning *2EPUB where * is the same set as supported for the conversion to LRF. Initially at least (until the bugs are worked out) the conversion will be command line based. Then I'll add an option to the GUI to let the user specify their preferred output format (EPUB or LRF) and all the rest of the GUI functions will take that choice into account.
