Flattening the TOC hierarchy
Would it be possible to include an option for mobi/azw3/kf8 outputs whereby the nested TOC of the source file gets flattened in the converted file, given that those formats don't support nested TOC.ncx files? This way you don't lose any chapter browsing functionality in the conversion process.

KF8/azw3 most definitely support nested TOCs.

You're right, of course, as far as the format goes. But some Kindle devices don't support the nested chapter breaks (such as the K3 and K4, for instance), only allowing for progress bar navigation between 1st level chapter headings.

IMO breaking the ToC nesting to workaround bugs in specific devices is not a good idea, it leads to loss of data in the generated files, files that will often outlive the devices for which they were generated. As such this isn't something I am interested in implementing, if you feel differently, patches are welcome.
