Incomplete News Download Under Mountain Lion
Since I upgraded to mountain lion I've noticed that the news that's scheduled to download at 6:30am doesn't until I wake the Mac. Before it used to download the papers.
The computer is set to sleep after 3 hours & under Lion it did used to wake. The other that may or may not be related is one of the papers (Guardian & Observer UK) hardly ever downloads correctly now. It only downloads a few hundred KB whereas if I manually download it's fine. Currently running 0.8.67 |

calibre does not contain any code to wake up a sleeping computer. You need to setup your computer to wake at the correct time outside calibre.

Hi Kovid,
Understood, it's not any hassle. Any idea why Calibre only downloads about 400K instead of the whole 3MB? It works if I manually start the scheduled task. |

Nope, there has to be something different about your environment to cause that, the download code is the same whether your run it manually or via a schedule. Try scheduling it for a normal time (when you would download manually) and see what happens.

Could your computer , just be going to sleep (again) after a short period of User Inactivity (Background tasks don't seem to count as Activity on XP). The News download had not finished before sleepy time occurred ( Increase the Idle timeout a bit and see if that helps. You can have a short Turn off the screen time to save power).

Calibre is set to download the paper after 6:00am. The Mac goes to sleep after 3 hours so if I head to the land of nod at 11pm, it will sleep around 2am.
I went away for 2 weeks & left the Mac on & the papers were still emailed & they were complete on most days. It seems that when I wake the Mac, it seems to only download a few hundred KB of the file. I'm convinced it's OS X but looking at my sent emails, the ones that are being emailed when I wake the mac are more likely to fail! |
