Creating a web link that downloads a book to your kindle?

I'm curious whether there's a way to create a link on a web site which upon clicking gets a book to a person's kindle. I'm presuming these would be done via sending the book to the person's XXX@kindle.com address (which they would have to enter) but maybe there is some other way. Another factor is that the person clicking the link would have to add the sending email address to their whitelist.

A friend of mine says he's seen such functionality out there; I'm not sure how it could be done. Any architectural advice is appreciated. I realize this isn't related specifically to Kindle Development but thought this would be the best place to ask.

Thanks,
Wil

Thomass - let me describe my scenario in a little more detail and see if what you're proposing relates to that. I'm saying that Person X is on their computer, goes to a web site containing a form. The form asks for Person X's kindle email (e.g. PersonX@kindle.com) which can be used to send documents to their kindle. The web site also tells the person to add an address to their kindle whitelist (so that they can receive emails with attachments from that address.)

From your comments above it sounds like you're suggesting using the Kindle to navigate to the web site and from there clicking a link and download the file directly onto the Kindle. That's interesting and informative, but is the first scenario also possible?

Thanks,
Wil

Yes, the first scenario is possible. Various bookstore and small publisher websites offer that as a service to their customers.

Your proposal opens a path for abuse and invasion of privacy.

There is no justifiable reason for a web site to be collecting the private e-mail address of people's Kindles, not when the Kindle can directly download the item.

I don't think anyone here wants to help with creating a Kindle e-mail address harvesting system.

Yeah. although it sounds like MAYBE you ought to be considering actually liaising with Amazon (since they already offer this service) as indicated above.

they could tell you how (they want it done)

you can send personal documents to "any" Kindle as long as you have access to an approved email account.
