Did you guys know about this?

So far I've got 10 pages of books on my kindle, sorted by author. So every time I want to find a particular author, I'm scrolling like mad, and God forbid I should want HG Wells. I just found out, that from the home page, if I just type in the first letter of the author I"m looking for, it takes me to the page where all authors of that letter start...I now just hit the "w" key and it takes me to the "W'"'s.......why didn't anyone tell me about this???

Yea, did you read the Kindle user guide?

You can also do a search if you'd like.

Actually one of the screensavers gives you that tip too. Read the screensaver tips?

Note that this trick only works if you have the index SORTED by author. If you have it sorted by title, or by "latest", then you can press the number keys to jump to a numbered index, but I don't believe the letter keys work.

This also works when sorted by title.

If you have it sorted by Title you can jump to the first letter of the Title.

From the User Guide:

Tip: [FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman]If you sort your Home screen by title or author, you can type a letter to jump to the first item that begins with that letter or a number to jump to a particular page of your Home listing.

The only problem with the trick is that sometimes the formatting is off - I have a couple of books I bought off of Amazon in which the author is sorted, on one book, in the "L"s (her first name) and in the other book, in the "S"s (her last name). Even though her name is displayed correctly on the line (first name, last name with no comma).

I almost bought a book twice because of that, but fortunately Amazon remembered I had already bought the book and warned me first.
