I randomly remembered this book a few months ago and have been looking for it ever since.

It's a young adult/teen fantasy novel set in a world that is based on the Middle Ages. The main character/one of the main characters was a young woman/teen named Beryl. I remember there being a lot of talk about a fair and an inn and if I remember correctly it was hard to travel from area to area in the book's universe. I read it as a teen so the absolute latest it could have been published would've been 2003/2004.

Any ideas?

It could be On Fortune’s Wheel by Cynthia Voigt but the girl is named Birle.

Hi,

I'm trying to remember the title or author of a book I read approximately 20 years ago. It is a military fiction about a naval conflict arising from a dispute about the South Spratley Islands.

Thanks,
Bruce Fisher

Could it be Sky Masters by Dale Brown or SSN by Tom Clancy?

It may be "Sky Masters"; I remember that I was reading a lot of Dale Brown around that time.

Thanks very much,
Bruce Fisher

Hi All! I've got one too! Not an ebook (actually I don't know, I read it as a p-book 15 years ago).

It's the story of a half Japanese, half American boy, who joins the Japanese navy. He's in love with a British lady, but she leaves him because he sleeps with a geisha. Japan starts a war against China and he's an artillery officer. Then there is also a war against Russia and he's a captain. In the meantime, his geisha commits suicide, helped by his brother, whom she was also seeing. He also gets married with a Russian princess and has a son. At the end of the book, he makes peace with the British lady and they marry.

Ciao & thanks in advance!

Wow! That's a pretty detailed synopsis for a book you read 15 years ago and can't remember the title. Hopefully it jogs someone's memory.

I really liked it... It had a bit of everything. Politics, war, romance, sex, adventure, etc... And very well written... But I forgot the title! :-)

More than 20 years ago I read a thriller (whose title I can't remember) where two men "exchange murders". The men had known each other in a pub or some similar place. One of the men wanted his wife killed, the other his rich uncle (not sure about the latter, could be some other relative). Some details:
- The wife is killed along with her lover (of whom the husband didn't know)
- The uncle was to be killed in a hit and run accident, but dies as a result of a heart attack before being hit.
- Both men communicate through newspaper messages, one of them was something like "the days are drawing in, the nights are drawing out".

There was an author's note at the beginning of the book saying that he had noticed that another author had used the "exchange of murders" plot, but he had not heard of it at the time of writing.

Any ideas?

No, I did a google search and found that one. Though the plot involves the exchange of murders, it is not the one I read...

This was also a Alfred Hitchcock film.
