It looks like it's smaller than the bezel of the iPad, except for one side which hosts sensors to change the light intensity, and probably page turn buttons as well. Since the light source is under the bezel, I'm not sure how thin you think that it's supposed to get.

"That thing" is almost 100% certainly a cartoon not a real device, so it's probably a bit premature to speculate about how wide the bezels are.

In absence of a real device, you can look at their other products: http://www.pocketbook-int.com/us/products. They are pretty fond of thick bezels.

This is the same size as the iPad Mini, not the full-sized iPad, and the Mini has much smaller bezels than this.

And it's supposed to be handled differently. With the mini, the user is supposed to hold it in one hand and use the other to touch the screen. The smaller bezel on the side is necessary so the user can hold the device without difficulty. With a reader you typically need a larger bezel with buttons for pages. There are other ways to do this if you want a more compact device, like turning pages by touching the screen, but it depends on what you want to use the device for (just reading vs. doing text annotations for example).

Every time someone puts out one of these color e-ink readers I understand why Amazon, B&N, and Kobo stay away from color e-ink.

I would expect it to be as proportionally thin as the bezels on the current lighted Kindle, Kobo and BN readers.

Personally, I think portable devices are more portable when the horizontal width is kept as short as possible, even if that means making a device taller or thicker. The wider a device is, the more unwieldy I find it to be.

The light source necessary for optimal grayscale visibility is most likely different from the the one necessary for color.

Why would it need to be? And even if it were different, whey would it need to be larger?

I also question the fat bezel on the right side. Do people really need paging buttons if there is a touchscreen? Even if some want them, do they really necessitate a much fatter bezel?

Not at all - there's innumerable applications that eInk could be used for that don't involve rapid refresh rates. Mobile phones. Watches. Price tickets in supermarkets. Advertising displays. The list is endless.

Here is the unveiling video of Pocketbook color Lux.

Price is decent at 347$. I am not satisfied with the grey color of the new screen.

It looks interesting, but the 600x800 resolution is very low. I've made an announcement post, redirecting to here.

I was excited about this ereader when it was announced. But i don't like the way the screen looks when frontlight is completely turned off. It is way too dark.
Kobo Aura is the best news so far this year. Will have to wait for other technologies now
