Ah, good point-that is considerably more lenient than Apple's device per account restrictions, which don't differentiate by content ( a big issue for families)

I agree, except in the case of Samples.

You can no longer download Samples to your iDevice and then buy the ebook at the end of the Sample.

This is a bit of a nuisance, since you have to do the login & search rigamarole to buy an ebook you've sampled.

I'm no specialist in anti-trust law, and my current knowledge is decades old at this point, but I think that a policy which has the effect of eliminating competition with iBooks would be vulnerable to anti-trust action. I might well be wrong, but I can see the line of proof & argument that could be made.

It's one thing to make things annoying for Kindle App users, but it's quite another to drive the Kindle App itself off the iDevices.

That quoted example, though, if I understand correctly wouldn't be a "No Kindle App Allowed" sign. (Although I think Apple is allowed to remove apps from its market at its discretion.)

I believe the user was speaking of the hypothetical situation where Apple says "If your app involves purchased content (i.e., books, music, etc.) that can be purchased outside the app (i.e., without Apple's cut), then the app must also allowed for purchasing inside the app (i.e., with Apple's cut if customers take advantage of the convenience)."

In this case, if Amazon has the HTML5 cloud reader in place, they would most likely yank the Kindle app from the store rather than re-institute in-app purchases that would then move the profits from Amazon to Apple.

I think that was the point of the poster, anyway.

I thought they had released a version of Safari 5 for Leopard, which does run on PPC.

So when is Amazon planning to let an iBooks app on the Kindle?

Its kind of funny that these guys are all, well, Apple is EVUUL because they have made in convenient for Ios Kindle App users. But the factthat thse booksellers have dedicated ereader devices closed to bother booksellers and to Apple? Hey, that's perfectly OK!
I can foresee a situation where, maybe, Apple develops an IBook app that's acceptede in the Google Market. But it definitely don't see it being accepted on the Amazon Tablet or the BN Nookcolor-unless Apple muscles them into that .

Love how Amazon handled this. I've tested Cloud Reader on my Mac in Safari, and works well. Like how it continues to allow download for storage offline. Even when online, downloading a book makes paging faster. Also noticed how samples aren't permanently stored, as they were with the standalone Kindle app.

I dont know that. But you cant have this argument both ways..
But seriously, you are not suggesting that an ebook reader should have multiple readers just like a tablet? I know this argument has been beaten to death here but we can give it another go..!

back to the topic. I was waiting for the cloud reader. Now I can access some of the books that I needed in office without going to IT for permission to install any app. Just wish they come out with Firrefox support as well.

I always thought the best thing B&N could do with the Nook Color would be to accept the Kindle app if Amazon had submitted it. Imagine! "Buy a Nook Color, read your Nook books AND your old Kindle books." Instant tablet sales.

Funny enough, Amazon apparently never submitted the app. I can't imagine why they wouldn't.

The Amazon market is Android based. I do not know of an iBooks android app. I suspect Apple is not interested in creating one, and therefore they would not have one to submit to the Amazon store. Until they do, your argument is purely hypothetical, I'm afraid.

The hole in the argument with the ibooks on kindle thing, is the Kindle isn't a device meant for really having third party things. The iPad is. Also, the other big thing is the kindle app was accepted and approved by Apple, and then Apple went back and changed the rules, and are no longer going to allow the kindle app unless it changes. It is apples and oranges if you're comparing not accepting an app at all, and forcing changes on an accepted app.

Apple isn't even interested in making an iBooks app for OSX. How stupid is it that you cannot buy and read their ebooks on their own computers?
