Can't login with desktop software

I've installed the desktop software, but when I try to login I get a Windows error, and then the program closes. With the help from Kobo tech I've downloaded the latest version, and done the C++ bit, but Still on luck. I've sent all the info to Kobo, but I haven't had a reply from them for over a week now. Can anyone hepl??
Thanks

I'm using Windows XP with Service pack 3. I can install the software, but as soon as I try to login I get a Windows error and the program closes. I've recently had contact with Kobo Help staff and they are trying to help.
