Quote:
Upon receiving the phone, users will choose their carrier from a menu. It’s a bold move that will break the hegemony of the carriers, but might also mean we pay more (unless Google devises a way to partially subsidize the phone itself)

Quote:
Meanwhile MoDaCo founder Paul O’Brien is citing “inside info” on a January 5th 2010 release for the Google Nexus One, and the interesting news is that it’s not just being pushed out in the US. He claims would-be European owners of the Android 2.1 device will be able to pick one up on that same date early in the new year too. No confirmed pricing as yet, however, but O’Brien says “it’ll be very competitively priced” but that there’ll be “no preorder available”.

Quote:
First up, the Reuters news service has a "source familiar with the matter" citing a Jan. 5 release date, both as an unlocked phone sold directly by Google, and at a reduced price, with two-year contract, through T-Mobile USA. The Android Guys blog has a tipster who claims something juicier: a $99 price through Google, for those with "old" Google accounts, with a $100 rebate that can be spent on data service or other goods.

Quote:
Yeah, it's $530 unsubsidized. Google's not going to be selling the phone at cost, like so many people considered. They're not going to save us from the "making money off of hardware" culture we've got right now, so this is basically just another Android handset, albeit a really good one
