The $99 Kindle HD6 (not sure when it will be available in Europe?) has accessibility features, most importantly voice over: see attached for options. The on button is easy to feel (top of device), the micro usb is right next to it. When you plug it in, there is a sound and the screen turns on. No LED light, though. The volume buttons are on the left, easy to feel as well. Last edited by xendula; 10-27-2014 at 11:55 PM. |

I've got Voice Dream on my iPhone and iPad but it only takes epub so it's a flaff getting the epubs into Voice Dream, I have to go via Dropbox and Marvin. I've ordered a Kindle Fire HD 6 so looking forward to seeing how the TTS works on the HD 6

it would be nice if amazon kindle app could talk without useing voice over.
but i guess its better than not talking . its just too robotic and it speaks everything ( on my spread sheet it read every cell letter then every number of the row then the box contence ) |

The TTS on the Fire worked very well, I only had it for a day before I sent it back but it was good. I had a female voice, I couldn't see a way to change the voice but it was a nice even voice.

Swipe down, press Settings.
Settings -> Language & Keyboard -> Text-to-Speech -> Download Additional Voices The Fire HD 6's voice is *much* less robotic sounding than the Kindle Keyboard. It's nice to be able to have the choice in the native TTS to choose between a male and female (US) voice. My older Kindle Fire only had a female voice. |

For non human recorded audiobooks the Ivona TTS (which is what The Fires have ) is about the best there is.
