Look in the News sub forum for news on the new nook and kobo.

Unless you've already decided on a kindle, of course.

I like the look of the Nook but I dunno if it would get delivered to Aus and I already have a Kobo and I would like to try something else out.

The Special Offer Kindle is a pretty good deal. The ads aren't intrusive, and some have been pretty good.

Yup. Special offers is about the best 'offer' you can get. Unless you hate ads. Then you can get a refurbished. Otherwise, there aren't really any discounts. The Kindle 3 has not really dropped in market value since it's successful launch.

According to Amazon.com...

Kindle with Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers is only available in the U.S.
So I don't think it would work for the OP.

I bought a US Kindle 3 (I live in Canada) and load my books through Calibre so I haven't turned on the wifi. This has disabled the ads from being delivered to my Kindle which is great. I'm guessing that as long as I have the wifi turned off it will stay this way. If you aren't interested in using wi-fi this is an option although I realize most people enjoy the convenience of it.

And believe it or not, some of us enjoy the convenience of getting free money from the ads.

I certainly enjoy the convenience of free money! I've only had my KSO a few days so haven't seen many offers, but I did jump on the $100 gift card for opening an Amazon Rewards account. With this one offer, my KSO nearly paid for itself immediately. I look forward to other special offers in the future, although I doubt they'll be as valuable as that single offer was.

Either way, it's a great deal if you don't mind screensaver ads instead of screensaver author photos.
