Classic Western ebook Subscription?
My 87 year old father is racing though whatever classic westerns he can find in the Kindle store (Zane Grey etc).
I'm wondering if there is a subscription model for classic westerns like I believe there is for romance ebooks (or even Baen sci-fi books). He has 2 Kindles and a Galaxy Tab so he can go ePub on the Galaxy Tab if need be. Thanks for any help or suggestions. |

There are plenty of westerns in the public domain. Besides Zane Grey, you can find Max Brand, Clarence E. Mulford (Hopalong Cassidy), B.M. Bower,... Check out Project Gutenberg for more.

The Pulp Magazines Project has full issues of Western pulp magazines.
Also, you might browse Wildside Press's "megapack" collections of public domain stories sold at Amazon for (usually) 99 cents; there are various volumes devoted to Western stories. |

You're quite welcome daffy4u, and thank you too Dr. Drib. There are many good books here at MR and a few of them are identified as in the Western genre. Of course some of them may be under things like Other Fiction or Adventure etc. as well so some searching might be needed. Some of W.H.G. Kingston's books might be western, I know some of them are about sea travels and such or trips in other lands. I don't know if he wrote any straight westerns though.

Also, I think you need to define what you mean by classic westerns? And are you looking specifically for public domain Westerns (and therefore presumably free) or just very good stories. I imagine your father would probably also enjoy Louis L'Amour and Elmer Kelton as well. And I think Lonesome Dove is an essential as well (Don't worry, it is as long as 3-4 other westerns ).
Finally you might want to check out the Western Writers of America. They have a list of all their Spur award winners; essentially giving you dozens of very good books to read. -- Bill |

Robert B. Parker wrote some excellent westerns. Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch. Most are available as library books.
