power button stuck

I admit, I did something stupid. I had my cybook resting on my knee and it slipped and fell about 2 feet to the floor. The floor was carpeted but it was in a public building (and we all know how fluffy carpet is in public buildings). Well when I picked it up everything seemed to work just fine. But later I realized that the power button was jammed and it would turn on and off all by itself over and over all day long until the batter was dead. I have tried to fiddle with the power button with no effect. I tried also to unscrew the back of it and see if I could get inside and fix it that way, but I wasn't sure how to do it right without breaking it so I abandoned that idea. Is there anyone out there that could help?

Somebody wrote that the screws were under things. It seems to be three screws that are under a small plastic thing. There probably also is a screw inside the battery compartment.

The power switch seems to be spring-loaded. I wonder if perhaps the spring became detached in the fall?

Quite possibly. Remember that my power button just broke one day - but that about two months earlier I had dropped it.

Yes, the Cybook can be opened up if one removes the screws hidden under the rubber feet and in the battery compartment, but I doubt there's anything user-repairable inside.

ruber feet? If you mean the place where the usb and headphone jack are, there isn't a screw there.

I did undo the screws under the battery cover, but I couldn't figure out how to pop it open to look and see if I could fix it myself.

Sorry... On my engineering sample unit, the three other places were covered with enough rubber (on the back of the unit) to portrude beyond the metal case - I called them 'feet'. On my current version, there's only enough 'rubber' to cover the screw heads. One is down on the left edge - as seen from the rear - just below the level of the two volume control buttons ("+" and "-"). Another is just to the right of the Power On/Off button and the third is along the right edge, below the lower edge of the stamped 'SD card' image which happens to be below the SD card slot. And then there is the screw within the battery compartment. That gives a total of four screws to remove.

Of course, removing the 'rubber' patches is probably going to be damaging enough to the 'rubber' as to negate any possibility of re-inserting them after you re-attach the screws.

Ah, that is what rubber cement is for

Ahh, I see them now. Any suggestions on how to remove them? I don't really care if I can't get them back in or not, I am most concerned about fixing my power button.

UPDATE

I was able to pry the rubber feet out with a very small flat head screw driver, and then was able to take out the rest of the screws. When I did this I was still unable to pry the device apart, however when I undid the screw that was closest to the power button and then tried to pry it apart in that area, what ever had caused the jam unjammed itself and now my power button works just fine again. I will never drop this thing again! I was even able to put the rubber feet back into place and it looks as good as new. Thanks Derek for all your help!
