I'm betting it is a particular book on your reader. Pre version 0.7.x and post 0.7.x do things differently.

I am not in the know on the workings of the software, but if it was my PRS-505 (and that is the reader I use) I would format my internal memory (wiping all books, history, bookmarks) via the Advanced settings on my device then resend my books to my device and be done with this error.

Go to preferences->Add/save->Sending to decive and make sure metadata management is set to manual. And if you want t downgrade to a previous release, you can do so quite easily: All previous releases are available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/calibre/files/

Metadata is set to manual. Do I need to unistall current calibre in order to get older version?

Thanks for your help have downloaded version 6.19 and this works perfectly. The only problem that I have which I always had is if I try to alter the name of the book it usually reverts the next time is there any way to save changes. This happens where I download a book and whatever way it is set up the author may be wrong or the name.

No one can remember back to 0.6.19, so no one can help you with this. I would suggest if your going back to an older version, try 0.6.55 (scroll down the page) which is the newest version available before the 0.7 series.
