UK Parliament rejects anti-DRM petition

The article on News.com describes an anti-DRM petition signed by over 1400 UK citizens, but rejected by a Parliament that is clearly siding with companies on the issue.

News.com/U.K. government rejects calls for DRM ban

The petition sites the recent Sony rootkit fiasco, but apparently Parliament thinks DRM works just fine, and that companies' only responsibility is to inform consumers of exactly what is embedded on their products.

I suppose it depends on what they mean by "works."

Another take from the BBC here:

As a contrast, see this editorial posted by the BBC yesterday:

US copyright lobby out-of-touch
Internet law professor Michael Geist takes a look at intellectual property protection in the US and finds it somewhat out of step with the rest of the world.

Greece is also taken to task for levying a surcharge at movie theatres that is used to support Greek films.
And yet in the US part of our tax money is spent to support the Public Broadcast System (PBS) and the shows it produces. As the article said, "Do as I say, not as I do." What's next, the Film Board of Canada?
