doc books to Sony 505

Hi All,

I look through the forum then decide I'll stick to tax law!! Much easier.

Can someone either point me the way, or explain how (if possible) to download .doc files to my Sony?

I get error, and can't convert, messages from Calibre.

I've found many books, in all formats, at truly-free.org.

Thanks All

.doc files directly transfered to a PRS 505 are not seen by the device.
There are 2 options:
1) Transfer .doc to prs 505 via Sony Software. Never tested, but it is supposed to work.
2) Save .doc files as rtf or html (filtered) and convert the output with Calibre to epub or lrf which are formats supported by your prs 505.

Transferring .doc files via the Sony Software only works if you have Microsoft Word on your computer. The Sony Software uses Word to convert .doc files to .rtf files before loading them on to the reader. (The reader will read .rtf files.)

I played last night with transferring the word (2007 btw) files to html then converting with calibre.

It worked, slow, but worked. I'll try the Sony software also

Just use Word to convert the .doc to .rtf and transfer the file to the 505 as an rtf. Calibre will convert rtf to other formats but the conversion is slow. I have around a dozen rtf files on my device currently and they work great.

Using Word lets me change the font size easily also while changing to rtf. Of course Calibre lets you change the font size too.

Good Luck.
