Meta Editor (Adding another field?)
Has fields for Title, Author and Language.
Would it be possible to add a field for Series and Series count. Just wondering. That way when we import it to Calibre it inputs the Series and Series count automatically as well as Title and Author. Not sure if this is viable. Or maybe I am missing something. I did look under Add Basic and Add Advanced but didn't see anything for series or anything similar. Anyway thanks for making a great product Valloric. Last edited by Guns4Hire; 08-14-2010 at 03:56 PM. |

The "series" and "series count" are proprietary metadata fields invented for Calibre. They don't exist in the epub standard. As such, they are unlikely to be supported in Sigil.

Gotcha. Thanks for the answer. Was wondering if that was the case.

Maybe "proprietary" is too strong a word here. As Valloric says, the ePUB standard currently includes no way to specify a series, and calibre added its own particular way, which is actually standard-compliant, because it uses just a <meta> element. The way to add the metadata has already been mentioned here.
I wonder, doesn't Sigil support adding arbitrary <meta> elements from within the GUI? |

Proprietary means proprietary. I didn't mean to imply it was somehow against the standard, but it is a proprietary extension.
The current internal architecture would make that somewhat difficult to implement. Not impossible, just difficult. It would take some doing. Haven't had time do it just yet, and nobody posted a request until now (you being the first) so it's not a priority. |

I would be interested in seeing something like this eventually.

Off-topic: Actually, proprietary implies ownership of something. You can't own a technique/information.
Since the technique calibre uses to save series information is open, it is not proprietary. See the definition of proprietary: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/proprietary |

Meta & sigil
question on the meta fields, subject says you can enter a phrase or keywords, can you do multiple words separated by comma? thought the standard allowed for that, but cannot find the info now and thought i would check here.
Afterthought, or is it better to put a long list of keywords in the description field? I know this can be done as well, but figuring out best practice seems to be challenging, conflicting practices. Last edited by eBookNoir; 09-17-2010 at 12:09 AM. Reason: afterthought |

Quote:
"Description" should be a textual description of a book, for instance like what you would find on the back cover. |
