Calibre suddenly can't access Kobo

Until yesterday, Calibre 0.8.2 was having no problem accessing my Kobo. I plugged in and added my newspapers and when I took the Kobo off it was missing a book I was reading, and others had the bookmark at the wrong spot. I plugged it back into the computer today to add new content and got this error from Calibre:

calibre, version 0.8.2
ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device

disk I/O error

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 62, in run
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 298, in _books
File "site-packages\calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 169, in books
OperationalError: disk I/O error

Has anyone seen this before?

Youe Kobo (file) Storage has an error (unfortunatly, a common , problem with e-readers).
Use the disk check and repair utility on your PC to fix the 'kobo' device drive letter (In windows: In 'My computer': Right-click on the Kobo-device drive-letter: Select Properties.
Click the 'tools' tab
In the Error checking section: click 'Check Now'
Tick 'Automatically fix...'
Click the start button just below that
