Confermation of steps needed to update 3.1 K3 KB.
My mother in law is dead set on updating her Kindle 3 Keyboard non SO model. I got it for her a few years ago(before Bestbuy carried special offer only kindles) and at her request jail broke it and did the SS hack.

I'm guessing it will be backup data, unjailbrake, update, and use a 3.4 jailbrake for it.

Anyone confirm this?

@renswic: Gonna need a bit more details than that. How does it fail? When? Which error code?

What's installed on the device? When? Which versions? Most of my stuff is pretty update friendly, so there's apparently something else that's causing a hiccup...

She will be by in the morning so I can play with it and see whats going on.

The JB and SS hack was done not long after after the 3.1 JB was released. I know I had thought about doing something to block her from doing OTA updates just not sure if I did or not will see in the morning when she brings it by.

Update she says that it will try to update but says 'update not successful'. No error codes or anything.

So I saw. Was something like U007. A quick Google search lead me to a thread here and I did as it said and reset to factory defaults.

Was able to then update to 3.3 then to 3.4, then latest jailbreak, then latest SS hack.
